About the Celebrations
On ce
India had led the world, not only in art and culture, but
also in science and engineering. A lot of scientific
knowledge now attributed to foreigners, had been known and
put into practice in India long before these were dreamt
of, by others. After the foreign occupation of India, a
dark age descended; the Indian masses were termed
uncivilized, primitive and illiterate. But then, with the
advent of a strong nationalism in the 19th century there
dawned the Renaissance; the nation observed the emergence
of towering personalities in all spheres of life. They
outshone the whole world with a new way of thinking;
Jagadis Chandra Bose (1858-1937) belonged to that class.
Acharya Bose inspired the Indians deeply with his
startling inventions and fight against racism. In physical
science, he discovered the generation and reception of
millimeter wave (Microwave), which received spontaneous
recognition. In biological science he proved that plants
respond similarly like animals towards external stimuli;
but this novel finding received scarce and skeptic
recognition. Nevertheless, when the recognition came, he
humbly submitted that the knowledge known to the Indian
sages for thousands of years, had only been disseminated
by him afresh. True to that spirit, Acharya Bose never
commercialized his inventions with the motto of dedication
to the welfare of mankind.
He believed that Science is for the mankind; it is neither
occidental nor oriental but universal. In this year of
150th birth anniversary of Acharya Jagadis Chandra Bose,
Indian Scientists have registered their presence on the
moon gaining impetus and inspiration from the life and
works of Acharya Bose and other illustrious predecessors.
For an overall development of our country and for greater
impact of science on society, more laurels have to be won
by future generation Indian Scientists, for whom the life
and works of JC Bose remain as an unending source of
inspiration.
With this objective, Bose Institute and Vijnana Bharati
have joined hands to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary
of Acharya Bose throughout India. During November 2008 to
November 2009, a series of mass awakening programs on the
life and works of JC Bose will be arranged with a view to
enthuse our people towards creation of a scientific temper
and environment in the society.
On this occasion, we invite all schools, colleges,
universities, scientific and social institutions, PSUs,
industrial and business houses, government departments,
and general public to support the cause, and participate
in the programs enthusiastically to pay due respect to
Acharya Bose and enthuse all in the service of the nation
and mankind following the footsteps of this great genius.
